FWD runs on the open internet, on open standards, with wideband audio by default. No proprietary clients, no vendor lock-in, no compromises on clarity.

  • Open protocols: IETF SIP and IANA-registered codecs.
  • Wideband HD voice (AMR-WB) — the same 7 kHz clarity used by modern mobile HD calling.
  • Non-commercial and experimental, inspired by the Amateur Radio tradition.
  • Any standards-compliant device, softphone, or ATA — no custom hardware required.

Trust and Identity

A network is only as valuable as the trust it carries. FWD is built around real identity and accountable operation, and extends that trust onto the wider phone network.

  • Inspired by Amateur Radio and FCC Part 97.1: licensed, accountable, non-commercial.
  • Every account verified before it can originate calls.
  • Connected to existing telecom networks with full STIR/SHAKEN support, so FWD calls are cryptographically attested end to end.
  • Inbound calls from the PSTN are checked — spoofed and unverified numbers are surfaced, not buried.
